The movie “Kitaro’s Birth: GeGeGe’s Mystery” was released in November 2023 as a commemorative work for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the original author, Shigeru Mizuki.The film depicts the encounter between Kitaro’s father (formerly Medama Oyaji) and the human Mizuki, and the story of the two of them. This is a story depicting the fate faced by the fathers of the world.

It is episode zero of the 6th season of the TV anime, and is an important work that leads to the secret of “Kitaro’s birth”.

The director of this work is Go Koga, who directed GeGeGe no Kitaro the Movie: Nippon Bakuretsu!!. The screenplay is written by Hiroyuki Yoshino, known for his work on the TV anime Macross F,'' and the character designs are handled by Toru Yatabe, who served as assistant director forShin Evangelion: The Movie.”

The cast includes Toshihiko Seki as Kitaro’s father and Hidenobu Kiuchi as Mizuki. The Ryuga family and relatives who live in Yagakura Village, where the two go for their own reasons, include Atsumi Tanezaki, Yumiko Kobayashi, Tetsu Shiratori, Nobuo Tobita, Yoko Sawaumi, Kazuya Nakai, and Kazuhiro Yamaji. Yuko Minaguchi, Rie Kugimiya, Akira Ishida, and Masaya Matsukaze, who plays the weekly magazine reporter, are all talented people who lead the Japanese anime world.

Also, 6th generation members Miyuki Sawashiro who plays Kitaro, Masako Nozawa who plays Medama Oyaji, Umeka Shoji who plays Neko Musume, and a mysterious boy (Nezumi) who resembles that familiar character. Toshio Furukawa also appears in the role.

<Story>
Kitaro and Medama Oyaji set foot in the ruins of the former Yagura Village. Medama Oyaji was remembering an event that happened in this village 70 years ago. About the encounter with that man and the fate the two faced…

1955 – Yagura Village was ruled by the Ryuga clan, which controlled Japan’s political and business circles behind the scenes. Mizuki, who works at a blood bank, is burdened with ambition and a secret mission in honor of the death of the family head, Tokisada, while Kitaro’s father sets foot in the village to find his wife. An ugly fight has begun in the Ryuga clan over Tokisada’s successor. Meanwhile, one of the family members is brutally murdered at the village shrine. It was the beginning of a terrifying chain of events. The encounter and fate of Kitaro’s fathers, and what they saw in their overwhelming despair.
